Glimpses of Truth V

Glimpses of Truth V

"Open my eyes, that I may see glimpses of truth thou hast for me..."

I read systematically through books of the Bible, a few verses at the time, on a daily basis. I may read it three or four times looking for things that speak to me. I just started the book of Colossians a couple of days ago. Some of it is as follows.

"We give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,  since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of your love for all the saints... For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you..." Colossians 1:3, 9.

Wouldn't it be great if we had the practice of "praying always" for our Christian friends. I had a sermon one time based on the story of the woman taken in adultery from John 8:7. Jesus said, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first." The name of the sermon was "Rocks or Prayers, Choose Your Weapons". I learned a long time ago that you can accomplish a lot more with prayers than stones.

Note some of the things Paul prayed for them in 1:9-12.

- That you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and understanding.

- That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him.

- That you would be fruitful in every good work.

- That you would increase in the knowledge of God.

- That you would be strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power.

- That you would have all patience and longsuffering with joy.

- That you give thanks to the Father for our inheritance.

Did you see that? Filled, knowledge, wisdom, spiritual understanding, walk worthy, pleasing Him, fruitful in every work, increasing in knowledge of God, strengthened with all might, His glorious power, patience, longsuffering, with joy, giving thanks to the Father. Did he mention inheritance of the saints? Wow! What a prayer.

The next time you pray for me how about remember some of these things. I will try to remember them for you.

Blessings to you all,

Bro. Vince
