Strength in Weakness

Strength in Weakness

Many people in our community are mourning the loss of family and friends today.  Death is never easy, nor does it always come in ways or times we can understand.  God promises, however, to be near those who are hurting and in need.

Nahum 1:7 says, The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble.  He cares for those who trust in him.”

Psalm 73:26 says, My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

Psalm 9:9 offers comfort, The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.”

These and many other verses are ones we hold onto during the low points in our lives.

2 Corinthians 12:9 may be my favorite, And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, My strength is made perfect in weakness."  Paul was quoting Jesus and helping us understand that it’s ok to be weak.  In fact it’s during our weakest moments when God is able to show just how great His strength is.  For me, that verse speaks to the fact that there are times in our lives when we are completely unable to fight off our weaknesses and limitations.  It’s during those times – times of struggle, grief and despair that we call on the One who is able to bring comfort and healing.  In those moments we truly sense the awesome power of God.

If you’re feeling weak and defeated, call on God and He will answer.  If you’re feeling scared and alone, He will comfort you.  If you are angry and hurting, he will understand and listen.  God will supply your every need and in the moments you feel weakest, you can count on Him to be strong for you.

In Christ, Jay
